Climate change alert

[Update 3: read here my  new occupation in citizen engagement started 4 months later
Update 2: Euan Mearns factoid-checking counterpoint highlights, if nothing else, the Gordian Knot-edness of it all...
Update 1: thanks fellow Canadian Texpat Katharine Hayhoe for her efforts in this document and the twitter-sphere]

The Fourth National Climate Assessment is endorsed by NASA, NOAA, the Department of Defense, and 10 other federal scientific agencies, as reported by The Atlantic. I wrote to all my social media outlets that "This is important to all bar none". Read it! Its excellent website is eminently accessible:

Emergency response maps as easy as 1-2-3  outlined how open data + an emergency + social media helped engage concerned citizens in last year's hurrican season. I posted this year a full suite  on polar geography as part of GIS education & awareness. Just this month I posted a very simple exercise using web mapping tools on ArcGIS Online (free registration required) to show how various datasets help assess local environmental risks.
Citizen engagement starts with ready-to use tools that allow everyone to explore their area of interest themselves - geographic data in aid of emergency situations in this case.
