"AI for the rest of us", Part IV

Update: follow on Part V.

The previous post (here) recapped our purpose to use current lessons-learned in new tech to help our community engagement. Here is another way to use AI, to summarise and to decant - summarise in a structured manner - information from an article my colleague Terry Jackson at Cambridgeshire.ai (under construction) asked me to try using Google Gemini (formerly known as Bard, their AI tool).

The question was simple: Can you use your new-found prompt engineering skill to get Gemini to present the text at Can AI Have Consciousness?. Key to resolve: Is Consciousness the… | by Suresh Natarajan | Original Philosophy | Mar, 2024 | Medium as a diagram?

Summary

I posed that question on the gemini.google.com prompt and here is the decanting of the article:

GEMINI GENERATED BULLET LIST

The article discusses what consciousness is and the difference between the experiencer and the awarer.

The author argues that AI can develop the experiencer aspect of consciousness, but not the awarer.

The awarer is the unchanging awareness that is independent of experience.

AI can learn and experience the world, but it cannot have the same subjective experience as a human.

Mind Map

I asked it to generate a mind map - or a logical flow diagram - from the above:

CREATE A MIND MAP FROM

Consciousness
Experiencer
AI can develop this
Awarer
Unchanging awareness
Independent of experience
AI cannot have this

That's the skeleton, now let's find the tools to create an actual diagram:

There are many free and almost-free mind-mapping online / desktop / app tools. This just happens to be one I had used before (this is no endorsement of, or against any other in particular).

Diagram

The free version created this simple mindmap, here is the PDF version (Gemini and Consciousness are links to both tools and the article posted above, and colour-coding should be self-evident):

Voilà! Easy as 1-2-3, isn't it? Another amazing shortcut provided by free AI tools from this series (work your way back via links in the intros).
