... Aaand now for something completely different! Following on tracing travels & travails on simple maps for my travels over a decade ago and recently Samurais & Richard Lionheart, I traced the journey of that song&dance everyone knows.
It all started with ye olde beer advert popping up on YouTube shorts:
I also happen to have a reproduction of the original Macareña tiles from Seville Spain in my parents' home. It's a villa in the Spanish style you can see on Flickr.

The Macareña comes from Spain: originally, it was an Andalusian first name and place name, linked to the Virgin of Macareña in Seville; the song "Macareña" is a hit from the 1990s created by the Spanish duo Los del Río.The Macarena dance comes from Spain, just like the song: The choreography originated in 1993 with the Andalusian duo Los del Río (from Seville), inspired by Diana Patricia Cubilla, a Venezuelan dancer at a party in Caracas. It developed during their Spanish concerts through audience interaction, before an American remix in 1995.The global version includes the iconic choreography created by Mia Frye (from Guadeloupe), popularized by the Bayside Boys remix. It became a global phenomenon in 1996, danced at parties, weddings and even political events.
So why not map out the travels of La Macareña? Mia Frye is Guadaloupean but resides in NYC, & Bayside Boys are from Miami: hence Seville, Caracas, Guadaloupe, NYC & Miami from 1993 to 1996. That time element allows to create a video I posted on Youtube, repeating it to see it better:
